Robert "Bob" Dudley (born September 14, 1955 in Queens , New York City ) is an American business manager , board member of BP and former chairman of the board of directors of TNK-BP . He was appointed to the board post of BP in connection with the 2010 oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico on June 18, 2010. Since October 1, 2010 he has been CEO of BP.

Life

Dudley grew up in Hattiesburg ( Mississippi to), received a Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois , a Master in Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and a MBA from Southern Methodist University .

In 1979 he joined Amoco . He worked in various positions including negotiations on the South China Sea . From 1994 to 1997 he worked for Amoco in Moscow . He became general manager for strategy. After Amoco was acquired by BP, he was given a similar position at BP. From 2003 to 2008 he was President and Chief Executive of TNK-BP.

In 2009 he became a director of BP and was given oversight of the company's activities in North and South America and Asia.

In 2010 he became the BP manager responsible for organizing the work related to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. He is responsible for the clean-up work in the Gulf, working with the authorities, informing the public about BP activities around the disaster and damage analysis.

On October 1, 2010, Dudley replaced Tony Hayward as CEO at BP.
