Pecci won the French Open junior tournament in 1973 . He became a professional tennis player in the mid-1970s and won his first individual title on the ATP World Tour in Madrid in 1976 . In the same year he won his first double title in São Paulo . In 1979 he celebrated his greatest career success in singles when, on the way to the final of the French Open, he defeated the finalist of the previous year Guillermo Vilas , the finalist of 1976 Harald Solomon and in the semifinals Jimmy Connors and in the end Björn Borg at his fourth French Open - Had to give up victory in four sets. In 1981 he lost again in the semi-finals of the French Open against Borg, who then won the tournament for the sixth and last time. In total, he won ten ATP singles and twelve doubles titles in the course of his career. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1980 with position ninth in singles and 1983 with position 28 in doubles.
His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was the final at the French Open 1979. In the doubles competition, he reached the quarter-finals of the French Open and the US Open , in Wimbledon he made it to the second round.
Pecci played 27 singles and 18 doubles games for the Paraguayan Davis Cup team between 1982 and 1990 . Together with Francisco González , they won the South America group with group wins against Peru , Uruguay and Ecuador . In the subsequent playoff against the winners of the North American group Canada , they qualified for the world group, where they advanced to the quarter-finals over the next three years. His greatest successes with the team included individual victories over Andrés Gómez , Yannick Noah and Henri Leconte , as well as a victory over the Swedish doubles of Stefan Edberg and Anders Järryd .
After the end of his professional career, Pecci was the team manager of the Paraguayan Davis Cup team.
