Ricardo Cano (born December 27, 1951 in Buenos Aires ) is a retired Argentinian tennis player .

Life

Cano won all of his titles on the ATP Tour in doubles. In the individual he was not quite as successful, but was in three finals. In 1976 it was defeated by Balázs Taróczy in Hilversum , in 1978 by Werner Zirngibl in Brussels and in 1981 by Carlos Kirmayr in Guaruja . There were also other semi-finals, including 1975 in Buenos Aires , where he failed after a first round victory over Vitas Gerulaitis to Guillermo Vilas , and 1976 in ATP Berlin , where he was defeated by Hans-Jürgen Pohmann . He won his four double titles between 1973 and 1981 with changing partners, including Guillermo Vilas and Andrés Gómez . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1976 with position 41 in singles and 1984 with position 285 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round of the French Open three times . At the US Open , he made it through to the third round twice. In the doubles competition he reached the quarterfinals of the US Open in 1975 on the side of Belus Prajoux . The following year the two were in the quarter-finals of the French Open. In the mixed competition, his best result was taking part in the quarter-finals at the 1977 French Open alongside Rosy Darmon .

Cano played 27 singles and 16 doubles games between 1971 and 1982 for the Argentine Davis Cup team . His single balance is 14:13, the double balance 9: 7. He had the greatest success with the Davis Cup team in 1981, when he was used in the quarterfinals of the world group against the Romanian Davis Cup team . In his game against Andrei Dîrzu, however, he had to give up after two sets due to injury. He also represented Argentina at the World Team Cup in 1979 and 1982.

After the end of his professional career, Cano played on the ATP Seniors Tour from 1994. In December 2000 he reached his best ranking position there with 3rd place.
