Werner Zirngibl (born September 4, 1956 in Munich ) is a former German tennis player . He played for Germany in the Davis Cup .

life and career

Zirngibl began taking part in professional tournaments in 1973. The only victory in a Grand Prix tournament he celebrated on June 12, 1978 in Brussels , when he won against the Argentine Ricardo Cano in four sets. He reached his highest place in the world rankings with rank 97 in November 1976. He had previously reached the round of 16 at the tournament in Barcelona . Zirngibl had more constant success as a double player: in 1978 he reached the quarter-finals with various partners in five tournaments. At the side of Andreas Maurer , he was only eliminated in the semi-finals in Monte Carlo in April 1979 .

Three weeks before that, on March 17, 1979, Zirngibl played the only Davis Cup game of his career in Augsburg . In the quarter-finals of the European zone, he and his doubles partner Ulrich Pinner defeated the Israeli doubles Shlomo Glickstein and Meir Wertheimer in four sets.

Today Zirngibl works in Munich as an orthopedist and sports medicine specialist .
