Life

Glickstein, the son of Polish immigrants, began playing tennis at the age of 10. In 1975 and 1976 he represented Israel at the Orange Bowl . At the age of 18 he completed his three years of military service, after which he became a tennis professional in 1979. In January of the following year, he won his first title on the ATP Tour in Hobart, Australia by beating Robert Van't Hof in the final . He won his second and last title against Dick Stockton in South Orange in 1981 . In the later years of his career he was less successful in singles, but better in doubles. Even if he could not win a double title on the ATP Tour, he had a number of very good results, especially in 1985 and 1985, including a semifinal participation in the Monte Carlo Masters alongside the Swede Hans Simonsson . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1982 with position 22 in singles and 1986 with position 28 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in 1981, where he was defeated by the eventual champion Steve Denton in four sets. In the doubles competition he reached the final of the 1985 French Open at the side of Hans Simonsson . Among other things, they threw the number 2 pairing Flach / Seguso and the Swedes Järryd / Edberg out of the tournament. They lost in the final in four sets to the Australians Mark Edmondson and Kim Warwick . The year before, Glickstein and Eric Fromm failed in the semifinals in just five sets against the later champions Leconte / Noah .

Glickstein played a total of 66 games in singles and doubles for the Israeli Davis Cup team between 1976 and 1987 . With 31 wins in singles and 13 in doubles, he is one of the most successful players in the country. His greatest success with the team was participation in the quarter-finals of the world group in 1987. After defeating the Czechoslovaks , who played Miloslav Mečíř , Milan Šrejber and Tomáš Šmíd , the quarter-finals were lost 4-0 to the Indian Davis Cup team , the last individual Glicksteins against Srinivasan Vasudevan was no longer played.
