The ATP tournament of Barcelona (officially Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell , previously Torneo Godó ) in Barcelona , Spain , is a tennis tournament that has been played outdoors on clay every April or May since 1953. It is one of the most traditional tournaments in Europe and after the Madrid Masters the most important Spanish tournament, currently part of the ATP Tour 500 , the second highest tournament category of the ATP Tour .

The record winner of the tournament with eleven titles is Rafael Nadal , whose original tennis club the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona is also the venue. After winning five titles in a row between 2005 and 2009, he canceled his participation in 2010. From 2011 to 2013 and between 2016 and 2018 he won the tournament again. In doubles, Roy Emerson is the record holder with seven titles.

The tournament is dominated by Spanish players. From 2003 to 2013 and from 2016 to 2018 a Spaniard always won; from 1996 (except 2014 and 2019) a Spaniard was always represented in the final. There have been eleven purely Spanish finals in total, eight times since 2001.
