Lennart Bergelin
Lennart "Labbe" Bergelin (born June 10, 1925 in Alingsås , † November 4, 2008 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish tennis player and coach.
Career
Bergelin won 20 individual titles in his career, including nine times the Swedish championship, and was one of the best amateur tennis players between 1945 and 1955. In 1948 he won the men's doubles competition at the French Open together with Jaroslav Drobný , becoming the first Swedish tennis player to win a title at a Grand Slam tournament .
In the Davis Cup , Bergelin played 89 games for Sweden and decided 63 for his team. In 1950 he was honored with the Svenska Dagbladet gold medal after winning his singles against John Bromwich and Frank Sedgman in the Davis Cup in a 3-2 draw against Australia .
After his career as a tennis player, Bergelin became a coach and was captain of the Swedish Davis Cup team from 1971 to 1976. During this time, Sweden's first victory in the Davis Cup fell in 1975, when Björn Borg , Birger Andersson , Ove Bengtsson and Rolf Norberg defeated the team from Czechoslovakia in the final.
Bergelin was from 1971 to 1983 coach of the five-time Wimbledon winner Björn Borg, whom he discovered for the Davis Cup and coached in eleven Grand Slam victories.
