John Bromwich
John Edward Bromwich (born November 14, 1918 in Sydney , † October 21, 1999 in Geelong ) was an Australian tennis player .
Live and act
Together with Adrian Quist , Bromwich formed one of the best men's doubles of the 1930s to 1950s. The lawn specialist won the Australian Open in 1939 and 1946 . He was also in the finals of this Grand Slam tournament in 1937, 1938, 1947, 1948 and 1949 . In doubles he won eight times from 1938 to 1950 and in mixed he was successful once. In Wimbledon he made it to the final in 1948, but could not win the final against Robert Falkenburg . In contrast, he won doubles in 1948 and 1950.
He was also victorious in doubles at the US Open in 1939, 1949 and 1950. With Australia he won the Davis Cup in 1939 and 1950 .
