Chris Haggard (born April 28, 1971 in Pretoria ) is a South African tennis player .

Career

Haggard became a professional tennis player in 1993 and has participated in ATP tournaments almost exclusively in doubles in his career. In singles he played numerous Challenger tournaments, but only qualified twice for the Queen's Club Championships in London . There he failed in 1996 in the second round to Boris Becker and in 1997 in the first round. About the game against Becker, however, he said that a dream came true for him because his great youth idols were Becker and John McEnroe .

In doubles he was in a final eighteen times and was able to win six of these tournaments. In Grand Slam tournaments , Haggard's greatest success was reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2003 alongside compatriot Jeff Coetzee . In the Davis Cup he was five times for South Africa in doubles and was able to win three of these encounters.

He played his last ATP tournament in May 2009 in Munich . Since then he has only rarely taken part in future tournaments in his home country.
