Brian MacPhie (born May 11, 1972 in San José , California ) is a retired American tennis player .

Life

MacPhie began playing tennis at the age of seven. In 1989 he was a single player in the semifinals of the Wimbledon junior tournament after beating Stefano Pescosolido and Jared Palmer , among others . The following year he stood there in doubles on the side of Jonathan Leach in the semifinals. During his studies at the University of Southern California he was selected several times as a single and doubles player in the top selection All-American . In 1990, he reached even in the amateur status of the doubles final of the ATP Challenger tournament of New Haven . Two years later he succeeded the feed to the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament of Newport , where he the seeded number one David Wheaton defeated. In 1993 he became a professional tennis player and soon specialized in doubles, where he celebrated his greatest successes. In the individual he was able to achieve some respectable successes, so he beat Jim Courier and Patrick Rafter in 1998 , but he was denied a final.

With changing partners he was in the finals in Birmingham and Los Angeles in 1994 , in 1995 and 1996 he reached the finals of the Masters tournaments in Montreal and Indian Wells . However, he won his first title in 1997 in San José . In the course of his career he has won seven titles, two of them at the ATP International Series gold tournaments . There were also eleven double titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1998 with position 126 in singles and in 2002 with position 22 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. In the doubles competition he was twice in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open .
