Florent was in the final of the junior tournament of the Australian Open in 1988 . After he had previously defeated his compatriots Jason Stoltenberg and Todd Woodbridge, among others , he finally lost to John Anderson . In addition, he was next to Glen Kellett in the semi-finals of the doubles competition.
Florent played his first full season in 1991, after he had occasionally participated in tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour in Australia in previous years . After two years with appearances mainly at ATP satellite tournaments, he was able to win the Challenger tournament in Kuala Lumpur together with Joshua Eagle in May 1993 . Eagle subsequently became his preferred doubles partner; together they competed in a total of 19 tournaments. In 1994 he was able to win his first double title on the ATP World Tour alongside Vojtěch Flégl in St. Pölten . In total, he won three double titles on the ATP World Tour and five double titles on the ATP Challenger Tour in the course of his career. He reached the highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1993 with position 610 in singles and 2001 with position 13 in doubles.
In singles, he was never able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament. In the doubles competition, he was in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon, as well as in the second round of the US Open. He also reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and Wimbledon in mixed .
Andrew Florent was married and has two sons. He died of cancer in August 2016 at the age of 45.
