Scott Melville (born August 4, 1966 in Fort Ord , California ) is a retired American tennis player .

Life

Melville played during his studies for the University of Southern California , where he was voted twice in the top selection All-American and in 1987 won the double title of the National Collegiate Athletic Association alongside Rick Leach . He won his first tournament victory on the ATP World Tour alongside Jeff Brown as a qualifier in New Haven . On the way to the final, they won over Jim Grabb and Patrick McEnroe as well as Rick Leach and Jim Pugh . In the final, they beat Petr Korda and Goran Ivanišević . Melville won nine double titles in the course of his career, including the ATP International Series Gold tournaments in Hamburg and Stuttgart . He was also in an ATP double-final seven times.

His best singles result in a Grand Slam tournament was the first round at the US Open in 1988. In the doubles competition, he reached the 1995 final of Wimbledon . At the side of Rick Leach, he lost to Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge in three sets. He also reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open three times and the quarter-finals of the US Open once. In the mixed competition he was in the semifinals of the French Open in 1994 with Meredith McGrath .
