It was the successor to the Long Island ATP tournament . The venue was the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center , formerly known as the Connecticut Tennis Center , one of the largest tennis stadiums in the United States. The competition was part of the ATP World Tour 250 and was also part of the US Open Series as a preparatory tournament for the US Open . The record winner of the event is James Blake , who is also the only domestic winner. Since 2011 the men's competition has not been held in New Haven, it moved to Winston-Salem , North Carolina .

This hard court competition was the successor to the Stratton Mountain tournament and was discontinued in 1998, but was part of the ATP International Series Gold . Mahesh Bhupathi was the only player to enter the list of winners in both tournaments, he won the doubles competition once each.
