In the men's category, Andy Roddick is one of the three record winners of the US Open Series with two successes
Rafael Nadal is also a record winner with two successes.
In the women's category, Serena Williams is the sole record winner with three victories.

The US Open Series is a series of currently eight tournaments on the ATP and WTA Tour , which extends over the five weeks before the US Open . In preparation for the Grand Slam tournament in New York, all tournaments will be played on surfaces similar to those in Flushing Meadows. Hence this series is also known as the North American hard court season . It was created in 2004 to give the smaller American tournaments a larger television presence.

The players can collect points in the course of the series, which later lead to a higher prize money depending on their performance at the US Open. In 2005 Kim Clijsters won a total of 2.2 million US dollars in prize money with her victory in both the series and Flushing Meadows, the highest sum in women's sport to date. Roger Federer won two years later, also through this double success, at the US Open a total of 2.4 million US dollars. Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal set a new record in professional tennis in 2013 by winning the US Open Series and the subsequent US Open with prize money of 3.6 million US dollars each. Williams succeeded in doing this in the following year too, raising the record again with $ 4 million in prize money.

In 2017, for the first time, no bonus prize money was distributed at the US Open Series.

Since 2006, players had to score points in at least two US Open Series tournaments in order to be rated for a top 3 place in the overall standings of the series.

Since the 2014 season, all of a player's points have been doubled as soon as he has scored points in at least three tournaments in the series.

In the event of a tie between two players among the top 3, the placement was determined according to the following criteria (whereby the next point was only progressed if the previous criterion was still equal between the players):

  • 1. Direct comparison (according to matches) of the players at tournaments of the US Open Series of the respective year;
  • 2. Higher number of match wins at tournaments of the US Open Series of the respective year;
  • 3. Higher number of sets won in tournaments of the US Open Series of the respective year;
  • 4. Higher number of games won at tournaments of the US Open Series of the respective year;
  • 5. Coin toss.

If more than two players were tied, the best placed player in this group was initially determined according to criteria 2-5; then the second placed was also determined according to these criteria, etc. If only two players remained in the group, the tie between them was resolved according to criteria 1-5.
