The tournament took place for the first time this year. In the ATP tournament calendar, it replaced the tournament in New Haven , the last time it was held in 2010, Serhij Stachowskyj entered the winners' lists in singles and Horia Tecau and Robert Lindstedt in doubles. In this year's individual final, John Isner prevailed against Julien Benneteau in three sets and won his third ATP title near his home in Greensboro . For Benneteau, however, it was the fifth defeat in the fifth ATP final. In the double final, Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram won against Christopher Kas and Alexander Peya . This was their second joint title that year and their 14th overall ATP title.
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 48 players, that of the double competition consisted of 16 pairs. The 16 top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round. The total prize pool was $ 553,125; total financial liabilities were $ 625,000.
The qualification took place from August 19-21, 2011. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There were also two lucky losers.
The following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who moved into the main draw via qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. Prize money for the double competition applies per team.
