Olivier Laurent Pierre Rochus (born January 18, 1981 in Namur ) is a former Belgian tennis player . His older brother Christophe Rochus was also a tennis player.
Career
After Olivier Rochus began his professional career in the 1999 season , he achieved his international breakthrough in 2000 . He celebrated his first title win on the ATP series in the International Series tournament in Palermo . He was also in the finals in Auckland and Copenhagen and was voted ATP Newcomer of the Year .
However, he celebrated his greatest success in the 2004 season . In the final of the French Open he defeated the French doubles consisting of Fabrice Santoro and Michaël Llodra alongside his compatriot Xavier Malisse . This made them the first Belgians to reach a Grand Slam final in the Open Era .
With Malisse he had another double success in Adelaide in 2005 . In the same year he reached his previous highest place in the tennis world rankings with the 24th place on October 17th.
In 2006 Rochus once again won a single tournament. He won the BMW Open in Munich , beating his compatriot Kristof Viegen 6: 4, 6: 2 in the first purely Belgian final on the ATP tour .
It was not until July 2010 that Rochus reached an ATP final. In this, however, he lost to Mardy Fish in three sets with 7: 5, 3: 6 and 4: 6.
On September 22, Rochus announced his retirement from professional tennis after the Challenger Ethias Trophy 2014 in Mons .
Since then he has worked as a trainer, for example for Arthur De Greef .
