The Austrian Open 2008 was a tennis tournament that took place from July 14th to 20th, 2008 in Kitzbühel . It was part of the ATP Tour 2008 and was played outdoors on sand. In the same week the Dutch Open Tennis was played in Amersfoort , the Indianapolis Tennis Championships in Indianapolis and the ATP Studena Croatia Open in Umag . Unlike the Austrian Open, which belonged to the higher endowed International Series Gold , these three belonged to the lower endowed International Series .

Juan Mónaco was the defending champion in the singles, but this year he did not appear in the tournament. In the final, the seventh seed list Juan Martín del Potro won in two sets 6: 2, 6: 1 against the six seeded Austrian Jürgen Melzer . With that, del Potro won his second title in singles, just a week after his first win at the tournament in Stuttgart . Potito Starace and Luis Horna were successful in doubles last year, and this year they were eliminated in the first round. In the final, James Cerretani and Victor Hănescu prevailed against Lucas Arnold Ker and Olivier Rochus 6: 3, 7: 5.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 555,000 euros; the total financial liabilities were 571,000 euros.
