The Mercedes Cup 2008 was a tennis tournament that took place from July 7th to 13th, 2008 in Stuttgart . It was part of the ATP Tour 2008 and was played outdoors on sand. In the same week the Allianz Suisse Open was played in Gstaad , the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport and the Catella Swedish Open in Båstad . These three were, unlike the tournament in Stuttgart, which the International Series Gold mattered to the category International Series

Rafael Nadal was the defending champion in the singles, but had to withdraw this year due to a knee injury. In the final, the unseeded Argentine Juan Martín del Potro won in two sets 6: 4, 7: 5 against the two seeded French Richard Gasquet and thus received his first title of his career. In doubles, František Čermák and Leoš Friedl were successful in the previous year, they did not compete again this year. In the German final, Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber prevailed 6: 3, 6: 4 against Michael Berrer and Mischa Zverev .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 547,000 euros; the total financial liabilities were 568,000 euros.

qualification

The qualification took place from July 5th to 6th, 2008. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
