The Pacific Life Open 2008 was a tennis tournament that took place from March 10 to 23, 2008 in Indian Wells . It was part of the ATP Tour 2008 and was played outdoors on hard courts. This season it was the first of nine tournaments in the ATP Masters Series category . At the same time, the women's Pacific Life Open 2008 was held in Indian Wells . The tournament lasts two weeks and no other ATP tournaments take place in the same weeks.

Defending champion in singles was Rafael Nadal . However, he was eliminated in the semifinals against the three later winner Novak Đoković . He defeated the unseeded Mardy Fish in three sets with 6: 2, 5: 7, 6: 3 and won his first title in Indian Wells and ninth individual title on the ATP World Tour . In doubles, Martin Damm and Leander Paes no longer competed together to defend their title. Both competed with a different partner and were eliminated in the first round or in the quarter-finals. Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram won the doubles . In the final, they defeated Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjić in straight sets 6-4 and 6-4 .

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 96 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 32 pairs. The 32 top seeded players in the singles each received a bye into the second round. The total prize pool was $ 3,339,000 and total financial liabilities were $ 3,589,000.

qualification

The qualification took place on March 8th and 9th, 2008. Twelve qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There were also two lucky losers.
