The Catella Swedish Open 2008 was a tennis tournament that took place from July 7th to 13th, 2008 in Båstad . It was part of the ATP Tour 2008 and was played in open sand. In the same week the Allianz Suisse Open was played in Gstaad , the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport and the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart . The latter was part of the International Series Gold , while the tournaments in Gstaad, Newport and Båstad were part of the International Series .

David Ferrer was the defending champion in the singles, who lost this year in the semifinals to the eventual tournament winner Tommy Robredo . In the final, Robredo, who was seeded on three, won in two sets 6: 4, 6: 1 against Tomáš Berdych from the Czech Republic. With that he won his first title of the year and the seventh of his career. Simon Aspelin and Julian Knowle were successful in doubles last year, only Aspelin competed again this year and eliminated with his partner Thomas Johansson in the semifinals against the tournament winners Jonas Björkman and Kevin Ullyett . In the final Björkman and Ullyett prevailed 6: 2, 6: 2 against the pairing of Johan Brunström  and Jean-Julien Rojer .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 305,000 euros; the total financial liabilities were 326,000 euros.

qualification

The qualification took place from July 5th to 6th, 2008. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There were also two lucky losers.
