The Countrywide Classic 2008 was a tennis tournament that took place in Los Angeles from August 4th to 10th . It was part of the ATP Tour 2008 and was played outdoors on hard courts. It was also part of the US Open Series , a series of tournaments in North America in preparation for the US Open . No other ATP tournaments took place in the same week. The tournament in Los Angeles, which was part of the International Series , was the last tournament before the Olympic Games .

Radek Štěpánek was the defending champion in the singles, but this year he did not appear in the tournament. In the final, third placed seedlist Juan Martín del Potro won in two sets 6: 1, 7: 6 2 against top seeded local hero Andy Roddick . After winning in Stuttgart and Kitzbühel , del Potro already won his third title in 2008 (within two months). Bob and Mike Bryan were successful in doubles the previous year, they did not compete again this year. In the final Rohan Bopanna and Eric Butorac prevailed against Travis Parrott  and Dušan Vemić 7: 6 5 , 7: 6 5 .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round. The total prize money was $ 450,000; total financial liabilities were $ 475,000.

The qualification took place from August 2 to August 3, 2008. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
