The Serb Novak Đoković did not appear in the individual to defend his title, the top seeded Swiss Stan Wawrinka was eliminated in the first round. The title surprisingly went to the German Philipp Petzschner , who only entered the main competition of the tournament after qualifying and thus won his only individual title to date. He prevailed in the final in two sets 6: 4, 6: 4 against Gaël Monfils . In doubles, the Polish defending champions ( Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski ) were eliminated in the first round. The title went to Max Mirny and Andy Ram , who thus won their first joint title. In the final they defeated the German- Austrian duo consisting of Philipp Petzschner and Alexander Peya 6: 1, 7: 5.
The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 674,000 euros; the total financial liabilities were 674,000 euros.
The qualification took place from October 4th to 5th, 2008. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
The following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who moved into the main draw via qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round.
