For the first time since the tournament was introduced, the field with Jürgen Melzer was led by an Austrian. He was also the defending champion. With Thomas Muster , a former world number one and three-time Vienna finalist also took part in the main competition. Muster received a wildcard from the organizers and made his comeback on the ATP World Tour after an 11-year break , after having already contested several Challenger and Future tournaments during the year . However, he was eliminated in the first round against the later finalist Andreas Haider-Maurer . For the first time since 1988, Jürgen Melzer and Andreas Haider-Maurer faced each other again in the final in Vienna ( Horst Skoff won against Thomas Muster). The prerequisites could hardly have been more different: Defending champion Melzer was at the top of the tennis world rankings in 12th place , his opponent Haider-Maurer only appeared in the ranking at the beginning of the tournament in place 157, and after a task in the qualifying final only slipped as a lucky loser due to the withdrawal from Ernests Gulbis in the main competition. Nevertheless, the surprisingly strong young Lower Austrian could challenge Melzer during the tournament and won the first set. After a break in the second, Haider-Maurer even led 5: 4 on his own serve, but then had to accept a rebreak after two double mistakes and lost the following tiebreak. In the third set, Melzer improved and finally used his first match point.
The defending champions in doubles were Łukasz Kubot from Poland and Oliver Marach from Austria . The two reached the semifinals. The tournament was won by the Canadian Daniel Nestor and the Serbian Nenad Zimonjić . It was their 22nd joint title on the ATP World Tour (at the 30th joint finals), and the 6th this year (with 8 finals up to then).
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 32 players, that of the double competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round. The total prize money was 575,250 euros; the total financial liabilities were 650,000 euros.
The qualification took place from October 23-25, 2010. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
