Defending champion in the singles was Roger Federer . This year he made it to the final again and met his rival Rafael Nadal there . He prevailed 6: 4 and 7: 6 5 and thus won his third title this year and his 39th title overall on the ATP tour. In doubles, Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjić were the defending champions. They made it to the finals again that year, but had to admit defeat to the brothers Bob and Mike Bryan . This was the third title in Madrid for the Bryan brothers after they had won the tournament in 2006 and 2007.
