Last year's winner in the individual was the Serbian Novak Đoković , who took second place to defend his title. In the final there was a new edition of the final from 2009 between Đoković and the top seeded Swiss Roger Federer , which Federer won in three sets with 6: 4, 3: 6, 6: 1. For Federer it was already the seventh final participation in Basel (victories: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010; defeats: 2000, 2001, 2009), and his fifth in a row. For Đoković it was the second participation after his triumph last year. Federer has won 12 out of 18 direct encounters so far. In addition to Federer and Đoković, David Nalbandian (2002), another former winner, took part in the tournament, but he failed in the quarterfinals.
The defending champions in doubles, the Canadian Daniel Nestor and the Serbian Nenad Zimonjić , also took part in the tournament again. They were also placed in second place. They made it into the final again, where they faced the top seeded US twins Bob and Mike Bryan . As in the single competition, a new edition of the previous year's final took place in the doubles, which the challengers could win as in the single competition. It was the tenth final for the defending champions and the eleventh for the challengers.
The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 1,225,000 euros, the total financial liabilities were 1,755,000 euros.
The qualification took place on October 30th and 31st, 2010. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
The following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The amounts for the double competition apply per player.
