The Shanghai Rolex Masters 2010 was a tennis tournament that was played from October 10th to 17th, 2010 in Shanghai . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2010 and was played outdoors on hard courts. This year it was the eighth of nine tournaments in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 category .

Defending champion in the individual competition was the Russian Nikolai Dawydenko , but he failed after a bye in the second round against German qualifier Mischa Zverev . Last year's French winners Julien Benneteau and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga were also unable to defend the title in doubles . They were already defeated in the first round to the Serb Novak Đoković and the Israeli Jonathan Erlich . The British Andy Murray won the single title without losing a set. It was his second tournament win of the year, and as at the tournament in Toronto in August, he defeated Swiss Roger Federer in two sets in the final - this time 6: 3, 6: 2. Nevertheless, Federer was able to conquer second place in the tennis world rankings again through his participation in the finals , Murray remained unchanged in 4th place. In doubles, the Austrian Jürgen Melzer and the Indian Leander Paes won their first joint title.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 56 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 24 pairs. The eight top seeded players in singles or pairings in doubles each got a bye into the second round. The total prize pool was $ 3,240,000; total financial liabilities were $ 5,250,000. All top 20 players in the current world rankings took part in the individual competition. Four Grand Slam winners competed with Rafael Nadal , Roger Federer, Novak Đoković and Andy Roddick . Another four ( Tomáš Berdych , Robin Söderling , Marcos Baghdatis , Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ) were already in a Grand Slam final. Nine players have already won at least one tournament of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000, and three players (Federer, Nadal, Roddick) have already topped the world rankings.
