The Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships 2010 were a tennis tournament that took place in Tokyo from October 4th to 10th, 2010 . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2010 and was played outdoors on hard courts. The same week the China Open was played in Beijing , which, like the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships, belonged to the ATP World Tour 500 category .

The defending champion in the individual competition was the Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga , but he was eliminated in the first round against the later finalist Gaël Monfils . In the final, world number one Rafael Nadal beat Monfils 6-1, 7-5. This won Nadal his seventh title of the year and his 43rd career title. The top seeded Austrians Julian Knowle and Jürgen Melzer could not defend the title in doubles either. They clearly failed in the quarter-finals against the Brazilian duo Marcelo Melo / Bruno Soares with 2: 6, 2: 6. The double title went to Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer . It was their second joint finals and their first joint title.
