Daniel Gimeno Traver (born August 7, 1985 in Valencia ) is a Spanish tennis player .

life and career

In 2009 Gimeno Traver managed to finish the year among the 100 best tennis players in the world for the second time in a row. He achieved this primarily through two tournament victories at the challenge level and reaching the quarter-finals at the ATP tournament in Acapulco . In 2012 he won his first ATP title in Viña del Mar , when he got the upper hand in three sets with Frederico Gil in the final against Pablo Andújar and Carlos Berlocq .

The year 2013 began for Gimeno Traver with the entry into the second round of the Australian Open and a quarter-final in Vina del Mãr . With rank 48 he reached his highest position in the world rankings to date. At the French Open he also reached the second round. The rest of the season was not very successful, so that Gimeno Traver slipped back in the world rankings and ended the year in 77th place.

The 2014 season was as unsuccessful as 2013 had ended. It set several defeats in the beginning, including at the Australian Open . In Viña del Mar he reached the quarter-finals as in the previous year, but subsequently remained too inconsistent, so that he slipped out of the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time in years. In Oeiras he reached the semi-finals through qualification, which made him move back into the top 70. Due to further first round defeats u. a. at the French Open and no victory during the grass season, he slipped in the world rankings and ended a year outside the top 100 again.

2015 began with a tournament victory at the Challenger in Bucaramanga and thus an immediate return to the top 100. The tournament victory was followed by a round of 16 in Quito . In April he reached his first ATP final in Casablanca , where he was defeated by Martin Kližan in two sets. This was followed by a semi-finals in Bucharest and the quarter-finals in Istanbul . In the course of the 2016 season he steadily fell back in the world rankings and only played on the Challenger Tour for the second half of the season, where he was increasingly plagued by an elbow injury. In February 2017 he finally underwent an operation and only played again in the qualification of the French Open .
