history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1211 and received Magdeburg city rights in 1469 . During the wars of the 16th and 17th centuries, Bibrka was devastated several times. The city belonged to the Austrian Galicia from 1774 to 1918 and was the seat of the district administration of the Bóbrka district from 1854 to 1918 and a district court from 1867. After the end of the First World War, the place came to Poland and was from 1921 in the Lviv Voivodeship . During the Second World War it was first occupied by the Soviet Union and from 1941 to 1944 by Germany . At that time it belonged to the General Government . The large Jewish community in town was deported to the concentration camps or murdered in the immediate vicinity.

In 1945 the city came back to the Soviet Union , where it became part of the Ukrainian SSR and has been part of the independent Ukraine since 1991.
