Great Synagogue in Bibrka

The Great Synagogue in Bibrka , a Ukrainian city in Lviv Oblast , was built in 1821. The Great Synagogue , north of the market square, was one of seven synagogues that existed in Bibrka before World War II . Only remnants of this and one more remain.

history

At the turn of the 20th century, major structural changes were made to the Great Synagogue. After the Second World War , the building was converted into a canning factory. Later this was given up. Since then it has been falling into disrepair and is now in ruins.

Due to the alterations, the building gives the impression of an industrial building rather than a synagogue.

architecture

The building was made of bricks and plastered. It consisted of the main hall (the men's prayer room) and the vestibule ( narthex ). The external dimensions are 14.30 × 21.50 m. During the renovations, door and window openings were partly bricked up, partly rebuilt and changed in size.

A second floor was later moved into the two rooms inside (main hall and narthex).

Torah shrine , bima , paintings and decorations are no longer available.
