Skole (Ukrainian and Russian Сколе ) is a Ukrainian city with about 6,500 inhabitants. It lies on the banks of Opir in the Lviv Oblast and is located southwest of the district capital viv at the northern foot of the Carpathian Mountains .

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1397. Due to its location on an important trade route between Kiev / Russia and Hungary, it was shaped by many different nations. After it had been in the hands of the Polish nobility under Polish rule, which had existed since the end of the 14th century, German craftsmen were also brought into the country, who allowed the economy to flourish. In the second half of the 19th century the industrial family Grödel, later ennobled Baron Grödel von Gyulafalva and Bogdan, were responsible for the economic development of the city.

In 1887 the place got a railway connection after the construction of the railway line from Lemberg to Munkács via Stryj , which had been planned in 1871 , in 1880 2047 inhabitants (mostly Poles, Ruthenians and Germans) lived here. On March 30, 1888, large parts of the village (100 houses out of a total of 300) burned down. In 1913 the place already had 8,700 inhabitants, of whom 3,200 were Jews, 2,700 Poles, 2,500 Ruthenians and 400 Germans.

Between 1854 and 1867 the place was the seat of a district authority, then until 1911 the seat of a district court of the Stryj district . From 1911 to 1918 the place was again the seat of the District Commission Skole , after the end of Austria-Hungary in 1918, the place previously in Galicia fell to Poland and was here from 1921 in the Stanislau Voivodeship . It has been part of the Ukraine since 1939/1945 .
