Peremyschljany (Ukrainian Перемишляни ; Russian Перемышляны ; Polish Przemyślany ) is a Rajons capital in western Ukraine about 46 kilometers southeast of the Oblast capital Lviv on the river Hnyla Lypa (Гнила Липа).
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1437, received town charter under Magdeburg law in 1623 and later became a Jewish center in Galicia . In 1854 the place became the seat of the district administration of the Przemyślany district , in 1867 a district court was added, both of which existed until 1918.
On February 25, 1909, a station of the local railway Lemberg – Podhajce was opened in the place, but after the destruction of the track system in the Second World War , the systems were not put back into operation and dismantled.
After the end of the First World War , the place became part of Poland and was from 1921 in the Tarnopol Voivodeship , was briefly occupied by the Soviet Union during World War II and then by Germany until 1944. During the Second World War, the National Socialists set up a ghetto for the Jewish population here, and on May 23, 1943, there were mass shootings of the local Jewish population.
After the end of the war, the city was added to the Soviet Union , where the city became part of the Ukrainian SSR and has been part of today's Ukraine since 1991.
