Sosniwka (Ukrainian Соснівка ; Russian Сосновка / Sosnowka ) is a small town in western Ukraine about 55 kilometers northeast of the oblast capital Lviv on the Bug .
The place was built in 1955 according to plan for the development and processing of coal deposits in the area and was initially named Shaft 5-9 (шахт 5 - 9), later Kirow . On November 19, 1957, it received the status of an urban-type settlement and was renamed Sosniwka at the same time, in 1968 the city charter followed. The name refers to the large pine forests (Ukrainian Сосна / Sosna = "pine"). Administratively, Sosniwka is subordinate to the northern city of Tscherwonohrad .
To the east of the city is a train station on the branch line of the Lviv – Kiverti to Tscherwonohrad line, which was opened in 1915.
