Mykolaiv (Ukrainian Миколаїв ; Russian Николаев / Nikolajew , Polish Mikołajów nad Dniestrem ) is a Ukrainian city with a little over 14,000 inhabitants. It is the district capital of the district of the same name, is located in the Lviv Oblast (Lemberg) and is located south of the district capital Lemberg . The next largest city is Novyj Rosdil .
The city was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1570 and received Magdeburg city charter in 1578 , which was renewed in 1940. It belonged to Poland within the Ruthenian Voivodeship until 1772 , after which the city remained with the Austrian Crown Land of Galicia until 1918, where Mikołajów was the seat of a district administration for the Mikołajów district between 1850 and 1867 , but then came to the Żydaczów district administration and received a district court. Then she came to the Second Polish Republic and was here in the Stanislau Voivodeship in the powiat Żydaczów . After the Soviet occupation of eastern Poland , the village, now called Nikolayev (Николаев), became part of the Ukrainian SSR as part of the Drogobytsch Oblast within the Soviet Union , in 1940 it was granted city rights again and at the same time the district capital of the Nikolayev Rajon . 1941-1944 it was occupied by Germany and was here in the district of Galicia of Kreishauptmannschaft Stryj assumed.
The municipality of Saklad ( Заклад ) also belonged to the municipality , since September 5, 2015, this has been part of the newly founded rural municipality of Trostjanez from an administrative point of view. The Lypivka settlement has been an independent municipality since July 3, 2012 and has also been part of the newly founded rural municipality since 2015. The Lviv – Stryj – Chop railway line has existed south of the village in the direction of the Dniester since 1873 .
The 79th Airmobile Brigade of the Ukrainian Army is stationed in the city .
