Stara Sil (Ukrainian Стара Сіль ; Russian Старая Соль / Staraya Sol , Polish Stara Sól or older Starasól ) is an urban-type settlement in Rajon Staryj Sambir of Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine the Oblasthauptstadt southwest Lviv at the foot of the Carpathians area.
The settlement council municipality of Stara Sil also includes the villages of Stara Ropa (Стара Ропа) and Twari (Тварі), the city of Staryj Sambir is about 5 kilometers south.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1255 and received Magdeburg town charter in 1421 , from 1774 to 1918 it belonged to the Austrian crown land of Galicia under its Polish name of Stara Sól and was the seat of a district administration from 1854 to 1867 , after which the district became part of the Sambor districts , Staremiasto and Przemysl and a district court of the later Stary Sambor district set up.
After the end of the First World War, the place became part of Poland (in the Lemberg Voivodeship , Powiat Sambor), was occupied by the Soviet Union during World War II from 1939 to 1941 and then by Germany until 1944 and was incorporated into the Galicia district. During the Soviet occupation, Stara Sil was given urban-type settlement status .
After the end of the war the place was added to the Soviet Union , there the village came to the Ukrainian SSR and has been part of today's Ukraine since 1991.
