The place was first mentioned in a document in 1230. In 1368 it became a city under Magdeburg law . In the years of the Polish-Lithuanian aristocratic republic 1340–1772, the place belonged to the Przemyśler Land of the Ruthenian Voivodeship , then it came to Austrian Galicia in 1772 and was the seat of a district office from 1854 to 1867, then until 1918 the seat of a district court of the Mościska district . From 1918 to 1939 he belonged to the Polish Lviv Voivodeship and there to the Powiat Mościska. The place name was originally only Wisznia , which means a settlement on a hill; the extension of Sądowa became common from around 1545, when the general assembly of the Ruthenian voivodships ( Sejmik generalny ) met here. In later times the city received further privileges.
