Medenytschi (Ukrainian Меденичі ; Russian Меденичи / Medenitschi , Polish Medenice ) is an urban-type settlement in the Drohobych district of Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine .

Medenychi main street

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1395 and carried the Ukrainian name Medenyzja (Медениця) or Russian Medeniza (Меденица) until October 23, 1989 .

The place was in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania in the Ruthenian Voivodeship until 1772 , then came to the Austrian crown land of Galicia and between 1854 and 1867 was the seat of a district office of the Medenice district of the same name, after which a district court was set up in the place from 1867 to 1918, administrative matters came Medenice to the Drohobycz district .

Between 1939 and 1959 the place was the center of the Medenytschi Rajon of the same name .

The distance to the southwestern Drohobych is almost 20 kilometers.
