Zhuravne ( Ukrainian and Russian Журавно - even Журавне Schurawne ; Polish Żurawno ) is an urban-type settlement in Zhydachiv Raion of Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine . The village is located on the banks of the Dniester about 67 kilometers southeast of the oblast capital Lviv .
In addition to the urban-type settlement, the village of Novoschyny ( Новошини ) belongs to the settlement council .
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1435 and received Magdeburg city rights in 1563 . In 1676 the contract of Żurawno was concluded in the place , from 1774 to 1918 the place belonged to the Austrian Galicia under its Polish name Żurawno and was the seat of a district administration from 1854 to 1867 , after which it was added to the districts of Kałusz and Żydaczów, the seat of a district court of the Żydaczów District was established in 1867.
After the end of the First World War , the place came to Poland (in the voivodeship Stanislau , Powiat Żydaczów, Gmina Żurawno), in 1927 the previously independent village of Pobereże was incorporated. During the Second World War , the place was briefly occupied by the Soviet Union and then by Germany until 1944 . Under Soviet occupation, the place was downgraded to village status, then upgraded to urban-type settlement in 1957.
After the end of the war, the place was added to the Soviet Union and joined the Ukrainian SSR there and has been part of the independent Ukraine since 1991.
