Treaty of Żurawno

The Żurawno treaty was a ceasefire agreement between Poland-Lithuania on the one hand and the Ottoman Empire on the other. The treaty was concluded on October 17, 1676 in the Galician town of Żurawno and formally ended the Ottoman-Polish War of 1672–1676 .

The treaty confirmed the territorial gains of the Ottoman Empire, as they had been recorded in the preliminary peace of Buczacz in 1672 , apart from a few border adjustments . Podolia with Kamieniec Podolski remained in the hands of the Sublime Porte , but the Turkish sultan waived annual tribute payments of 22,000 zloty . The Polish king, on the other hand, achieved a peace of almost seven years, which gave him the opportunity to concentrate on the internal reforms of the Rzeczpospolita, which had been completely shattered by wars and conflicts after almost 30 years (1648–1676) .

The armistice agreement was recognized under international law in the Treaty of Istanbul of 1678 .
