Pomoryany

Pomorjany (Ukrainian Поморяни ; Russian Поморяны , Polish Pomorzany ) is an urban-type settlement in zolochiv raion of the Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine .

The settlement is about 95 kilometers east of Lviv and about 25 kilometers south of the Rajons capital Zolochiv on the river Machniwka . In addition to Pomorjany, the villages of Bohutyn (Богутин), Sahora (Загора), Kulby (Кульби), Nadilne (Надільне) and Torhiw (Торгів) belong to the settlement council of the same name .

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1437 and was initially in Poland , came to Austrian Galicia as Pomorzany in 1772 and was part of the Polish Republic from 1918 to 1939 (in the powiat Zborów, Tarnopol Voivodeship ). After the end of the Second World War , the place fell to the Soviet Union, since 1991 it has been part of today's Ukraine. In 1940/44 the village, now called Pomorjany, was given the status of an urban-type settlement, until 1959 it was also the district center of the Pomorjany district of the same name .

The main attraction of the place is the Pomorjany Castle , it was built in the 16th century and was rebuilt in 1789 to its present state, but since it was last used as a school in the 1970s, the building has been falling into disrepair.
