Novojaworiwsk ( Ukrainian Новояворівськ ; Russian Новояворовск Novojaworowsk ) is a Ukrainian city with just over 26,000 inhabitants. It is located in the Jaworiw Raion of the Lviv Oblast and is located west of the regional capital Lviv . The municipality also includes the villages of Kohuty ( Когути ) and Steni ( Стені ).
The village was founded in 1965 because of the sulfur mining in the area as Jantarne („нтарне = "amber"). In 1969 it got the status of an urban-type settlement and was renamed Novojaworiwske ( Новояворівське ), derived from the nearby city of Jaworiw . Since 1986 it has had the status of a town under district administration within the Jaworiw district. On June 3, 2008, the name of the city was changed to Novoyavorivsk.
