Stryi district
The Stryj district was a political district in the crown land of Galicia and Lodomeria . Its area covered parts of eastern Galicia in what is now western Ukraine ( Lviv Oblast , Rajon Stryj ), the seat of the district administration was the city of Stryj . After the First World War , Austria had to cede the entire district to Poland .
It bordered to the northeast and east by the district Żydaczów , the south by the district Dolina , to the west by the district Skole and in the northwest on the district Drohobych .
history
A forerunner of the later district (administrative and judicial authority at the same time) was created at the end of 1850, the district authority Stryi was subordinate to the government area of Lemberg and comprised the following judicial districts:
- Stryi judicial district
- Żydaczow judicial district
- Skole Judicial District
- Synowucko Wyzsze judicial district
After the announcement in 1854, on September 29, 1855 the Stryj District Office (still responsible for administration and jurisdiction) was established within the Stryj District.
After the district offices were abolished at the end of October 1865 and their competencies were transferred to the district offices , the division of the country into two administrative areas was also abolished after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise in 1867. In addition, in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, separate administrative and judicial authorities were created. While the judicial division remained largely unaffected, municipalities of several judicial districts were combined into administrative districts.
The new political district of Stryi was formed from the following districts:
- Stryj district (with 44 municipalities)
- Skole district (with 48 municipalities)
- Parts of the Bolechów district (municipalities Dzieduszyce Wielkie , Morszyn , Sokolów, Gelsendorf with Nowe-Olexiniec and Łany )
The district of Stryj consisted of 56 municipalities and 46 manor areas at the 1910 census and covered an area of 659 km². In 1900 the population was 66,737, in 1910 80,211 people lived here. The majority of the population lived in the area with Ruthenian colloquial language (77%) and the Greek Catholic faith, while Jews made up around 11% of the population.
On January 1, 1911, the judicial district of Skole was spun off from the political district and incorporated into an independent district of Skole .
