The Podgórze district (from 1915 rural district) was a political district in the crown land of Galicia and Lodomeria . Its territory covered parts of western Galicia in what is now Poland , the seat of the district administration was the city of Podgórze . After the First World War , Austria had to cede the entire district to Poland, large parts of which can be found today in the Powiat Krakowski or the city of Krakow .

It bordered the Kraków District to the north, the Wieliczka District to the east and south, the Myślenice District to the southeast, and the Wadowice District to the west .

history

A forerunner of the later district (administrative and judicial authority at the same time) was created at the end of 1850, the Podgórze district administration was subordinate to the Kraków government area and comprised the following judicial districts:

  • Podgórze or Krakow Judicial District, Section III.
  • Wieliczka judicial district
  • Judicial district Niepołomice
  • Skawina Judicial District

After the announcement in 1854, on September 29, 1855, the Podgórze District Office (still responsible for administration and jurisdiction) was established within the Kraków district.

The district office was then dissolved on February 28, 1867 and the district area was incorporated into the Wieliczka district.

The district was created on September 15, 1896 when the judicial districts of Podgórze and Skawina left the Wieliczka district.

The Podgórze district consisted of 53 municipalities and 49 manor areas in the 1910 census and covered an area of 234 km². In 1900 the population had still comprised 54,142 people, in 1910 64,383 people lived here. The majority of the population lived in the area with Polish colloquial language (95%) and Roman Catholic faith, while Jews made up around 11% of the population.
