history

Municipalities around Krakow in 1900

A forerunner of the later district (administrative and judicial authority at the same time) was created at the end of 1850, the Kraków district administration was subordinate to the Kraków government area and comprised the following judicial districts:

  • Krakow Judicial District, Section I.
  • Krakow Judicial District, Section II.
  • Mogiła judicial district
  • Liszki judicial district

After the announcement in 1854, on September 29, 1855 the Kraków District Office (still responsible for administration and jurisdiction) was established within the Kraków district.

After the district offices were abolished at the end of October 1865 and their competencies were transferred to the district offices , the division of the country into two administrative areas was also abolished after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise in 1867. In addition, in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, separate administrative and judicial authorities were created. While the judicial division remained largely unaffected, municipalities of several judicial districts were combined into administrative districts.

The new political district of Krakow was formed from the following districts:

  • Mogiła District (with 54 municipalities)
  • Liszki district (with 45 municipalities)
  • Parts of the Krzeszowice district (municipalities Bolechowice, Brzezie Narodowe and Brzezie Szlacheckie, Karniowice, Kobylany, Modlnica with Modlniczka, Tomaszowice, Ujazd, Więckowice, Zelków, Zabierzów)
  • Parts of the Kraków Magistrate District (municipalities of Czarna Wieś with Kawiory, Dąbie with Głębinów and Beszcz, Piaski with Grzegórzki)
  • Incorporation to Cracow 1909-1915
  • The Kraków district consisted of 64 parishes and 44 manor areas at the 1910 census and covered an area of 478 km². In 1900 the population had still comprised 62,381 people, in 1910 68,827 people lived here. The majority of the people living in the area spoke Polish (98%) and had Roman Catholic beliefs, while Jews made up around 2% of the population.

In the years 1910 to 1915, according to the city president Juliusz Leo’s development plan for Kraków, numerous parishes were incorporated into Kraków. On April 1, 1910: Półwsie Zwierzynieckie , Zwierzyniec , Czarna Wieś , Nowa Wieś Narodowa , Krowodrza , Grzegórzki and parts of the municipalities Prądnik Biały and Prądnik Czerwony with Olsza, a total of 22.74 km² (from 6.88 km²) to 29.62 km² . On December 19, 1910, the Dąbie community followed with Beszcz and Głębinów.
