The Podhajce District (until the 1870s Podhayce District ) was a political district in the crown land of Galicia and Lodomeria . In November 1918, after the collapse of the Danube Monarchy at the end of World War I, the district was briefly part of the West Ukrainian People's Republic .

It bordered on the north by the district Brzezany , in the northeast on the district Tarnopol , on the east by the district Trembowla , the south by the district Buczacz , in the southwest of the district Stanislau and west by the district Rohatyn .

history

A forerunner of the later district (administrative and judicial authority at the same time) was created at the end of 1850, the Podhayce district administration was subordinate to the Stanislav government area and comprised the following judicial districts:

  • Podhayce Judicial District
  • Manasterzyska judicial district

After the announcement in 1854, on September 29, 1855, the Podhayce District Office (still responsible for administration and jurisdiction) within the Brzeżan District was established.

After the district offices were abolished at the end of October 1865 and their competencies were transferred to the district offices , the division of the country into two administrative areas was also abolished after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise in 1867. In addition, in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, separate administrative and judicial authorities were created. While the judicial division remained largely unaffected, municipalities of several judicial districts were combined into administrative districts.

The new Podhayce political district was formed from the following districts:

In the 1910 census, the Podhajce district consisted of 65 parishes and 60 manor areas and covered an area of 1046 km². In 1900 the population had still comprised 86,844 people, in 1910 93,546 people lived here. The majority of the population lived in the area with Ruthenian colloquial language (66%) and Greek-Catholic faith, Jews made up around 8% of the population.
