Przemyśl district
The Przemyśl District was a political district in the crown land of Galicia and Lodomeria . Its territory included parts of eastern Galicia in what is now western Ukraine ( Lviv Oblast , Staryj Sambir Raion and Mostyska Raion ) and Poland ( Powiat Przemyśl ). The seat of the district administration was the city of Przemyśl . After the First World War , Austria had to cede the entire district to Poland. Large parts of it today belong to the powiat Przemyski .
It bordered on the north by the district Jaroslaw , to the east by the district Mościska , in the southeast of the district Sambor , the south by the district Stary Sambor , in the southwest of the district Dobromil , the west by the district Brzozów and in the northwest on the district Rzeszów and the Przeworsk District .
history
A forerunner of the later district (administrative and judicial authority at the same time) was created at the end of 1850, the Przemyśl district administration was subordinate to the Lviv government area and comprised the following judicial districts:
- Przemyśl judicial district
- Niżankowice judicial district
- Mościska judicial district
- Judicial district Sądowa Wisznia
After the announcement in 1854, on September 29, 1855, the Przemyśl District Office (still responsible for administration and jurisdiction) was established within the Przemyśl District.
After the district offices were abolished at the end of October 1865 and their competencies were transferred to the district offices , the division of the country into two administrative areas was also abolished after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise in 1867. In addition, in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, separate administrative and judicial authorities were created. While the judicial division remained largely unaffected, municipalities of several judicial districts were combined into administrative districts.
The new Przemyśl political district was formed from the following districts:
- Przemyśl District (with 47 municipalities)
- Niżankowice District (with 46 municipalities)
- Parts of the Radymno district (with 19 municipalities)
- Parts of the Mościska district (municipalities of Buców , Medyka , Poździacz , Szechinie , Torki )
- Parts of the Starasól District ( Sanoczany Municipality )
The Przemyśl district consisted of 133 municipalities and 108 manor areas in the 1910 census and covered an area of 1002 km². In 1900 the population was 144,875, in 1910 159,991 people lived here. The majority of the population lived in the area with Ruthenian colloquial language (50%) and the Greek-Catholic faith; Jews made up around 14% of the population.
