Sielnica (Hungarian Szélnye - until 1888 Szelnic ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 1427 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Zvolen , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the Zvolenská kotlina basin at the foot of the Kremnitzer Mountains to the west . The Sielnický brook , a tributary of the Hron, flows through the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 347 m nm and is seven kilometers from Zvolen and 12 kilometers from Banská Bystrica .
history
Sielnica was first mentioned in writing in 1250 as Zelnitz . It was initially a place in the dominion of the Sohler Burg and the inhabitants were charcoal burners. In 1397 the first Gothic style church was built. In 1828 there are 61 houses and 485 inhabitants.
After the Second World War, many dachas were built above the village.
