Hronská Breznica (until 1927 Slovakian Hronská Brežnica ; German Bresnitz , Hungarian Garamberzence ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 253 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Zvolen , a district of Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The community is located on the middle course of the Hron on its left, on the northern slope of the Schemnitz Mountains . In the eastern part of the municipality, the Hron takes up the Jasenica stream on the left bank . The "local mountain" is the 678 m high Demian hill. The mostly hilly municipal area is largely forested, with smaller cultivated areas along the Hron. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 289 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Zvolen .
Neighboring municipalities are Hronská Dúbrava in the north, Budča in the north-east and east, Ostrá Lúka in the south-west, Kozelník in the south, Močiar in the south-west and Trnavá Hora in the west.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1424 as a pretzel , when Sigismund of Luxembourg transferred everything in the territory of the Dobrá Niva castle to his wife Barbara von Cilli . In the 16th century the village was owned by the powerful Thurzo family , then the Neusohler Bergkammer. In the second half of the 16th century, Hronská Breznica was affected by Turkish looting in the area of Schmenitz . From the 18th century to 1848 the village was divided between the dominions of Dobrá Niva and Sachsenstein Castle ( Šášov ). In 1828 there were 30 houses and 226 inhabitants who were employed as foresters and farmers.
Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Hronská Breznica had 274 residents, including 233 Slovaks , five Roma and one Magyar . 35 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
110 residents committed to the Evangelical Church AB, 80 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, two residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident to the Reformed Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 34 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 46 residents was not determined.
