Močiar (Hungarian Kövesmocsár - until 1907 Mocsár ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 160 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Banská Štiavnica , a district of Banskobystrický kraj .

geography

The community is located on the northern edge of the Schemnitz Mountains in a high, gentle mountain basin. The surrounding municipal area, however, is quite mountainous. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 620  m nm and is 15 kilometers from Banská Štiavnica and Žiar nad Hronom .

Neighboring municipalities are Trnavá Hora (district Jalná ) in the north, Hronská Breznica in the northeast, Kozelník in the southeast, Podhorie (districts Teplá and Žakýl ) in the south, Žiar nad Hronom (district Horné Opatovce ) and Ladomerská Vieska (district Hronomad in the west and again Žiar nad Šášovské Podhradie ) in the northwest.

history

Močiar was first mentioned in writing as Pallude in 1305 , when a certain Peter de Pallude sold a piece of land to comes Henrich's son . In 1388 the village called Mochar at that time belonged to the territory of the Šášov Castle . In 1536 three portals were recorded in a tax register, in 1601 there were 22 houses and a restaurant. In the 17th century Močiar was under the administration of the Bergkammer. In 1720 the village had ten taxpayers and a mill, in 1828 there were 60 houses and 401 inhabitants who were mainly employed as lumberjacks and farmers.

Until 1918, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. There was heavy fighting in the area during the SNP . After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in Žiar nad Hronom, Banská Štiavnica and Banská Belá .

According to the 2011 census, 175 inhabitants lived in Močiar, 159 of them Slovaks . 16 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

149 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church and one resident each for the Methodist Church and the Orthodox Church. Six residents had no denomination and the denomination of 18 residents was not determined.
