Trnavá Hora (until 1927 Slovak and "Trhanová"; Hungarian Bezeréte - to 1892 Trnavá Hora ) is a municipality in the middle of Slovakia with a population of 1,248 (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Žiar nad Hronom , part of kraj Banskobystrický belongs .

The municipality is located on both sides of the Hron River in a narrow valley between the Kremnica Mountains in the north and the Schemnitz Mountains in the south. The 24.5 km² municipal area is largely covered by brown forest soils. The center of the village is at an altitude of 370  m nm and is eight kilometers from Žiar nad Hronom and 15 kilometers from Zvolen .

The municipality is divided into the municipality parts Jalná, Kľačany (both incorporated in 1971) and Trnavá Hora.

Two railway lines run through the municipality, both north of the Hron: Nové Zámky – Zvolen in the valley and Zvolen – Diviaky (up into the mountains). The R1 expressway passes south of the river without a direct connection to the community.

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1388 as Tornaua and was the location of a toll station in the territory of the Šášov Castle . After 1676 the village was under the administration of the Bergkammer. 1 According to a tax register there were 13 portals in 1534 , then 13 houses in 1601, a mill and 12 taxpayers in 1715 and finally 34 houses and 230 residents in 1828.

Until 1918, the place in Persch County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. During the Slovak National Uprising in late 1944, there were heavy fighting between the insurgents and the German armed forces in the municipality.
